Hatteras Island is a beautiful display of God's wonderful creative power. One has to do little more than spend a season on the sand to be impacted by the display of God's omnipotence, and beauty through His creation. One day you might experience the joy of a sunny day, with a light southerly breeze and calm seas. The next day you may experience the awesome wind of a category 3 hurricane that stirs the ocean to a furious pitch. Waves rising to great heights and crashing on the beaches move and shape the ever changing face of the shoreline.
Life is much like our island. Sometimes we find ourselves in calm situations full of joy, peace and smooth waters. Sometimes we find ourselves in storms and winds that show us just how fragile we truly are. On more than one occasion, the island we drive on, play on and live on has been cut in two by strong currents and powerful waves that were generated by storms.
When we encounter storms in life, we need a safe haven, a place where we know no storm can destroy us. It is our goal at HICF to help people find that safe haven in Jesus Christ. HICF has become a harbor of safety for many island residents - from Rodanthe on the northern end of the island, to Hatteras village on the southern end of the island. HICF (often referred to as the surfer church) is a non-denominational fellowship of servants of Jesus Christ the King. Our worship is contemporary in style, but ancient in purpose and desire. Our goal is to lift up the name of Jesus in a manner that honors Him, motivates believers to a greater love of God, and draws the lost to desire salvation. Most of our members dress in casual attire. We encourage people to come as they are and enjoy the presence of God's Holy Spirit. We pray that as you come, you will truly be blessed and challenged by our services. We love our vacationing brothers and sisters. At HICF, you will be welcomed as a member of the King's family, not as a tourist. Come worship and study God's Word with us while on Hatteras Island. Whether in the church building or out surfing the waves, we welcome the family of God to help us counter the activities of the enemy on our island.
